Oppedette Gorges

The Gorges d’Oppedette is above all a wild and special part of the region, a must-discover on this hike! Classified as an “Espace Naturel Sensible”, this natural setting, where limestone cliffs and the Calavon river meet, offers a superb natural backdrop.

The “Traverse de l’Echelle” hike takes you down into the Oppedette gorges, before climbing back up and visiting the small village. The descent is quite sporty but very playful. You start from the viewpoint that offers a superb view of the gorges and then descend along the cliffside using handrails and iron apparatus.
It’s not very complicated but not recommended for those with vertigo 😉

At the bottom, in the depths of the gorges, you will navigate on more or less defined paths that bypass often dry water basins. However, caution is needed, as you may need to think about the best route to avoid getting your feet wet!
The atmosphere here is very wild, and you may feel like you’re alone in the world!

The ascent is manageable, with no technical difficulties except for a ladder to climb in a wide chimney.

This short, sporty, and playful hike will appeal to all budding adventurers!
